Italian Round Lucite and Chrome Ashtray / Vide-Poche, 1970

In the 1970s, Italian design studios paired thick lucite with polished chrome to produce table objects that were as precise in their construction as they were graphically strong. This circular ashtray follows that logic: a moulded lucite bowl with a continuously curved profile and a stepped rim, housing a polished chrome insert at its center.
The removable chrome lid, pierced with a central aperture, is a signature feature of Italian table ashtrays from this period. Without the lid, the piece functions as a clean, minimal catchall. The lucite base, with its layered rim profile, reads as a composed object from any angle. Designer and editor unidentified.
Condition: very good. A few barely visible surface scratches on the lucite, consistent with age. Chrome intact, no oxidation.
Dimensions: diameter 16 cm, H 5 cm.
